Greetings of Sakha Science Academy rector Dr. Vasily Pavlov:

WELCOME TO PARTICIPANTS

My Dear Young Friends!
I am immensely pleased and deeply honored to welcome each one of you to the 7th Yakutia International Science Fair (YISF-2026), which is proudly being held within the framework of the III Yakutia International Science Games here in Yakutsk. This forum marks the largest educational and scientific celebration for secondary and high school students in the Far East regions of the Russian Federation, bringing together 177 of the brightest young minds from 10 countries and 7 regions of Russia.
As we gather here at the second and final stage of this prestigious international platform, it is profound to look back at the historical roots of scientific exploration in this corner of the world. Exactly 300 years ago, systematic explorations began right here in Yakutia, spearheaded by the legendary Danish Russian navigator and explorer Vitus Bering and his exceptional team of pioneers. With breathtaking bravery, they set foot on this vast, untamed permafrost landscape, pushing the frontiers of geography, meteorology, and ethnography into uncharted territories.
Long before Bering’s ships sailed, the great philosopher, polymath, and co-creator of calculus, Gottfried Wilhelm Leibniz, expressed a keen, passionate interest in developing scientific knowledge about the diverse regions of the world – including Eastern Siberia. In fact, it was Leibniz’s visionary idea to organize these scientific expeditions in the first place, serving as a trusted scientific advisor to the great Russian reforming Tsar, Peter the Great. Leibniz firmly believed that unraveling the geography, natural resources, and cultures of these remote landscapes was essential to building a complete, unified map of human understanding.
Looking back at those days, we may stand in complete amazement at how simple and primitive their instruments of knowledge discovery truly were. Those pioneers charted vast river systems and freezing oceans using little more than basic astrolabes, mechanical clocks, and ink-stained notebooks.
Today, you stand in a completely different era. You are truly blessed with an unprecedented wealth of sophisticated research methods, innovative technological tools, and a massive body of human knowledge. This digital universe of data has been accumulated, preserved, and disseminated globally due to the greater transparency, openness, and truly scientific virtues that greats like Leibniz so fiercely advocated.
By coming together to step onto this international stage, you are the real living inheritors of these great enlightenment ideals. By communicating openly, engaging in rigorous debate, and bravely presenting your own independent research to the wider world, you are directly helping your peers develop and push the boundaries of modern science.
Science is never an easy path. It demands long, tedious hours of precise work, painstaking observations, and careful experimentation. But your arduous efforts will undoubtedly bear fruit for the ultimate benefit of humanity. Embrace this unique opportunity to defend your points of view, exchange ideas, and build cross-border collaborations. Be brave, remain curious, and remember – the world is your oyster!

Yours sincerely,

Dr. Vasilii Pavlov
