16th International Research School

This is a unique platform for students interested in science and research, who like to ask questions and look for answers, and are open to communicating with people from a wide variety of cultures. The participants will work in project groups together with leading scientists from all over Russia and the world in 11 areas and create their own project.

To participants

We invite teams of high school students to take part in the 16th International Research School (IRSchool 2026), which will be held in central Yakutia from June 30 to July 10, 2026.

What is IRSchool?

The International Research School (IRSchool) is an international scientific and educational project for everyone who is interested to discover the world around and the people who live in it. The IRSchool aims to promote global understanding between representatives of different countries and cultures through joint research and creative activities.

Senior school students from around the world gather together for several days to participate in express projects in natural sciences and humanities under the guidance and supervision of young scientists from Russia and abroad.

For only 10 days, the projects pass all their stages: a hypothesis, setting the goals and objectives of the experiment, data collection and processing, presentation of the results to colleagues and experts. In addition IRSchool offers lots of interactive trainings, games, workshops, concerts, tours and sports events.

Delegation leaders exchange their experience in doing science with children at the workshop organized as part of the IRSchool.

IRSchool 2026 Venue

The Republic of Sakha (Yakutia) is the largest region of Russia (more than 3 million km²), with nearly half of its area located above the Arctic Circle. It is an amazing land of dense forests, full-flowing rivers, and lakes, rich in gas, coal, and diamonds.

Summer in Yakutia is not very hot, while its winters are famous for having the lowest temperatures on the planet. Most of the republic is located in the permafrost zone, and even on the hottest days, the ground does not warm up but remains a mixture of soil and ice. Permafrost opens up unique opportunities for studying ancient flora and fauna. This climatic feature preserves the remains of animals that lived on Earth tens of thousands of years ago in excellent condition. Discoveries of mammoths, which have become a symbol of this harsh region, are of particular interest.

In 2026, the International Research School (IRS) will once again take place at the New Educational and Laboratory Building of the Junior Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Sakha (Yakutia). It is one of the country's leading scientific and educational centers, a regional center for identifying and supporting gifted children in Yakutia, where olympiads, conferences, and scientific-practical seminars are held. Teams come here for training before representing Russia at international intellectual events. The new laboratory building of the Junior Academy of Sciences was opened in 2022 to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the Republic. The three-story educational and laboratory building with a total area of over seven thousand square meters consists of two adjacent blocks: an educational-laboratory block and a residential block.

Participation conditions

Organizations independently select the participants for their teams and arrange for an adult educator to accompany them. The recommended ratio of adults to children in a delegation is 1 adult per 6 participants.

We welcome delegations of talented school students from grades 8–11 who are fluent in English, passionate about science and research, and open to communicating with people from diverse cultures.

An experience-sharing seminar will be held for delegation leaders (educators) during the IRS. Therefore, we will be glad to see among them our colleagues who work with children and youth in the field of science and research. In addition, we would like adults to stay in contact with the children from their delegations to support them during this interactive international event. Essential conditions for a leader include conversational English proficiency and a readiness for active teamwork.
