Last time, we started introducing you to our projects.
And now we are pleased to present the second one – “Population Genetics: The History of Invasion”
Why are Yakut crucian carp disappearing from some rivers in Yakutia? The answer likely lies in genetics. An alien invasive species is gradually displacing native species. And you will be able to study this process using real DNA analysis methods. During this project, you will master techniques such as DNA extraction, polymerase chain reaction (PCR), electrophoresis, and the basics of statistical analysis in population genetics. You will go through all the stages of a full-fledged scientific study: from sampling to final conclusions.
You will be guided along this journey by qualified mentors who are deeply versed in the subject. Pavel Nikolaev, a graduate of the Biology Department of Moscow State University, studied the genetic diversity of the White Sea flounder and has been working with schoolchildren from Yakutia for many years. Svetlana Nikolaeva, a researcher at the Blokhin Cancer Research Institute and also a graduate, is also a member of the team. Moscow State University.
